John I am glad my input about it not being “a god given right to trade” made you stand corrected and reissue your position… you could have given me credit.. but my ego is just fine 😊
Look…The only bullies were the UN and the global financialization fanatics of the last 30 year who aided by foolish economists of the day launched what we now call neo liberalised global trade deals onto national leaders also being lobbied by multinational corporations that could almost taste the plundering of new markets at the expense of national citizens in the west via labor arbitrage. So mainly the losers were the western citizens and the winners were some citizens in the rest pulled out of poverty and most certainly the global elites that skimmed off the top very effectively. It also added billions to the global workforce that now have expectations of unearned prosperity and has created massive human migration.
Other than discrediting his motives which I wish you would not do Trump at face value is doing what should have been done in the west by other leaders from the start and avoided the huge access to western consumers with labor arbitrage that has upset the delicate balance between capital and labor and with the huge wealth gradient between the west and the rest has resulted in a huge loss of western prosperity.
You keep on about comparative advantage but you have redefined it enough that its now clear you agree that it has to meet certain conditions to be used in a pure manner.
Based on your new definitions at face value …..Trump is doing free trade!!
I request you look through my article on “does the US need the USMCA” and give me your comments….
Never thought about Trump using the tariffs to force our way into small countries resource extractions- is there any left that isn't already claimed? That's my question to you. I know about the talk about that our time in Afghanistan and Ukraine has allowed us to write up claims on their nations resources. What's a little humorous is the claims that those asset values aren't anywhere what they are claimed to be.
This is outside my area of personal expertise, but I read a good bit about there being valuable mineral resources in Ukraine, which Trump negotiating for, and Greenland, which he plans to take over. There is little doubt that the petroleum resources of Iraq is the primary reason for the continued U.S. presence there. So, this sort of thing is not new to the U.S. The resources of many of the so-called less developed countries of the world have probably not yet been assessed or exploited.
